I went in knowing nothing about Karrie. The beginning is definitely shocking, upsetting, traumatic. It had me wondering if people could be arrested from the details of a memoir.
I also keep getting caught up with her age. Why are these men showing any interest in this young girl? Why is this normalized?
Do you know who Papa is?
As for zoom, right now Thursday or Friday works for me.
This book was A LOT! I finished it in one day it had me reeled in from the beginning. Her mother is the worst. I don't have too many words for Kool G Rap. I'm just glad she was able to leave.
I came into this book completely blind. I am not quite half way but not worried about spoilers. Her mom is horrible. But I’m also mad about her friend’s mom who WORKED FOR CPS and did nothing when her mom beat her up in plain view right after she had been raped. That rape was so graphic. I just want to finish this book quickly and get it all out of my head.
Yeah, that was wild about the friend's mom - but that was back in the day of staying out of each other's business. Thankfully, times have changed a little! 💜
I tried to pace myself - but accidentally read half of it the first few nights...tried reading another book to distract me and then picked it back up and finished it. 🤦♀️😂
I went into this blind - didn't realize it was a memoir...a few pages in, I had to go back and see if it was and sure enough! 😳
The things that shaped her so early - it's no wonder she ended up going about things the way she does after she thankfully gets away from that monster.
Oh! And as for the book club meeting - I'm west coast and it's tax season - so I won't be able to join no matter which day you pick. (I'm not a CPA - I'm an admin and this time of year means OT - which my wallet is always happy about lolol) I'll be there in spirit! 💜

Listen. HER AGE. I had to keep saying wait..she's not 18..she's not 18....

A LOT. I had my mind made up about how it was supposed to go, and this was NOT IT.
