Ok friends. I have one thought so far…
What. The. Fuck. ( pardon my language)
OMG.
You guys. I know the 90s and early 2000s were crazy. I lived it. I know how men and women functioned in the 90s and it was DYSFUCTIONAL.
But I was listening to this with my jaw on the floor for the first few chapters and then clutching my pearls with my face screwed up by the time I got to 50%.
What did I just listen to?
I have so many thoughts on her mama, her Daddy, Kool G MF Rap, and ICED T.
My question for all of us today is :
What were your initial thoughts about Karrine as she shared her early life experiences? Did you find her relatable, sympathetic, or frustrating? Why?
Personally, at the beginning of the book, I was like: am I reading the wrong book? Because everything that I thought I knew…the book wasn’t a reflection of that. Her mama was awful, the rape had me traumatized. The boyfriend’s mama had her stripping. I felt so sorry for the trauma of her life.
Especially when it moved on to Kool G Rap and that whole…debacle of a relationship. I mean, a man with a Daddy kink…always has issues friends. Always.
But after she got to LA I felt like I was reading a completely different book and it gave me whiplash. I was like OHHHHHH I SEEEEEEE.
I’m going to probably finish this book today in between meetings because I just can’t help myself LOL
Thoughts??? Spill them in the comments!
Also, let’s start thinking about our Zoom call for this book now
March 27th ( Thursday ) or March 28th(Friday) 7pm or 8pm.
DM me, message me, put it in the comments. I will come back on Friday with an official poll between the most popular choices.
put your answer in the comments. and Friday I will send out a poll.
Ok share your thoughts friends! What do you think??
I went in knowing nothing about Karrie. The beginning is definitely shocking, upsetting, traumatic. It had me wondering if people could be arrested from the details of a memoir.
I also keep getting caught up with her age. Why are these men showing any interest in this young girl? Why is this normalized?
Do you know who Papa is?
As for zoom, right now Thursday or Friday works for me.
This book was A LOT! I finished it in one day it had me reeled in from the beginning. Her mother is the worst. I don't have too many words for Kool G Rap. I'm just glad she was able to leave.
