This is my first comment ever on substack. So I’m wondering there’s a cookie or something that I receive for that. Also this has been my exact experience with Amazon and I’m actually mad at myself for not doing it a long time ago.
LaShawn, I am not ordering on Amazon... I realized I was ordering stupid things that I could source elsewhere... just like you. What I AM having trouble with is giving up Prime, because I love my Britbox subscription (and my Masterpiece subscription) and watch very little "real" television. I am still trying to break the ties, I admit it. I don't go to Target, rarely did before.... so that was easy. I've dropped my Sam's membership and only go to Walmart as a last resort for something specific. Thank you for inspiring us!
ahhh we get our Britbox subscription through Apple TV. And I only go in walmart for exactly 2 things that I can't find anywhere else. And i forgot to put that i found out I've been paying for MAX TWICE! once though hulu and once through Amazon prime! When i tell you i was HOT!
Guess what? I can get Britbox through Britbox.com. I bet I can get Masterpiece the same way! Bye Bye Amazon. I do have to get two diabetic supplies at Walmart... because... Amazon
I’d like do a trial like you did and quit Amazon for a set time to see the results, but I know it’ll take some planning. I have stopped buying books from there and instead, buy from our local stores. One offers a yearly membership where I get 10% off books and tickets for author events they host (plus, first dibs on those tickets). They’ll also order anything they don’t have in stock. It’s not as cheap as Amazon, but I feel better about it. Plus, it’s around the corner from my favorite empanada restaurant. 😉
I gave up Amazon the same day I gave up Target which was about the same time as you. I haven't missed Amazon. But, I never used it that much, because it always made me itchy. A couple of times, okay maybe 5, I've wanted to go to Target. But, no, I have not. But, I am MAD at Target. They can and should have done better. And, it was my happy place.
I paused my renewal on Amazon, and I cancelled Amazon music. I'm going back to Apple music, even though I'll miss my free monthly audiobook from Amazon music. I haven't shopped target since January, but it hurts. I've spent more money on things that i could get from target when they had sales. I miss the free gift cards when you spent a certain amount, because that usually covered personal care products. I have found that I can find a lot of my products at TJMaxx and Ross, but they don't have a consistent supply of any one thing. So its hit or miss most times.
yes at first I thought TJMAxx and Ross would be my go to but you are right, they are never consistent. I have to be a little more crafty, like i know my Kroger has coupons for a lot of the personal care items i use so i make sure to search and then stock up when they have the sales. I didn't think about pausing my membership, but that's a good idea...

Oh! And, I'm on the list for the new Emily Henry book at my library.
