We are 6 days into May and I feel like it’s been 50.
Geez.
I’m confused at how half the year is almost gone and that summer is approaching.
HOW?
The boy has 14 actual school days left but they collect their computers on the 16th so….8 instruction days???) , Our summer vacations that seemed so far away are looming and now I’m stuck with WTH am I going to do with a teenager all summer long now that I have an actual job and he can’t work yet and he’s officially too old for the camp he’s gone to since he was 10.
Also my body refused to let me get “summer ready” so this is the body we getting and I pulled a muscle somehow in my Butt and I have another pimple…
HELP ME.
ANYHOO.
It’s the first Monday in May and I’ve got a ton of links for you from things I saw on the internet last week AND the week before. And this weekend.
Cheers.

Friends, 2024 is the year Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower opens. I finally cracked open the book after years of owning it because HOW COULD I NOT??
I went ahead and put together a summer beach reading list. Because I plan on beaching and reading this summer as much as possible and I hope you do too. Or reading by the pool. Whatever. As long as water is involved.
I’ve been purging my closet and working on building a sort of capsule wardrobe for the summer. My color theme is neutrals with pops of color here and there so I can mix and match better. I added this dress from the Old Navy Sale last weekend. IT IS THE CUTEST EVER.
The 1864 era abortion ban in Arizona has been repealed. SIDE EYE
One of my favorite romance books The Idea of You was adapted to film and released on Amazon Prime on the 1st. A lot of folks don’t realize that the author of the booktok sensation was written by a black woman. And that the film is produced by one. I’m in her Facebook group from way back in the day so …I am loving all of the attention she’s getting.
Speaking of books some more, Brittney Griner’s memoir comes out tomorrow. Her interview with Robin Roberts had me near tears. This article from the New York Time Magazine is …just read it.
Of course, even though Brittney does not read it herself ( understandable because …) I will be listening to the audiobook.
And also, please read this substack about these Legislative Bills across the country that would make Librarians…criminals for doing their jobs. As the post points out “ It does not matter whether these bills pass or whether they even make it to their respective legislative chamber floors. By drafting these bills, legislators play right into the greater scheme and do damage to underpaid, overworked, poorly funded institutions of democracy and civic engagement”
Students continue to protest around the country. As a former student journalist, I love this article on how the student journalists on the ground are covering the protests from inside…the actual protests…
Perimenopause irks my very soul because none of my elders decided to warn me about it. So I am always looking for info on what to expect and how to treat it. I came across this article about why my joints hurt and 10 foods that reportedly help.
Drake got his ass handed to him from Kendrick Lamar over the weekend and I and most of Black Threads was thoroughly entertained. I don’t see how Drake comes back. To quote someone on Threads: Drake went low , but Kendrick went to hell.
I am not a fashion girlie. But every first Monday of the year, I look forward to the Met Gala and seeing the FASHION. So while we wait for tonight’s looks, check out this article about the history of the Met Gala
The US finally reclassified marijuana as a less dangerous drug. But didn’t legalize it for recreational use. Even though a lot of states have done just that…
Official Marathon training starts for me this week. I finally decided on a program ( Jeff Galloways’s Run/Walk Beginner Marathon Training Program) with some help from the Every Woman’s marathon’ Pre-training program. Chile…let us pray for my knees. I just want to finish the race.. uninjured. That is all.
Hope you found sometime to enjoy, learn and think about in this list.
That’s not all of course, but that’s all I’ve got today.
Talk Soon!

I started the book “The New Menopause,” by Dr. Mary Claire Haver this weekend. I have my annual GYN checkup at the end of this month and want to go in prepared with questions or thoughts I have about my body and perimenopause.
I watched the Idea of You twice this weekend and then ordered the book from Amazon. I cannot wait to read it and had no idea the book was written by a black woman. I love it here!
