Some years, I plan my birthday with amazing ideas and plans and some years, I don’t want to do anything but sit in bed and read a book all day.
Well, year 48 was the latter.
Actually, the only thing about yesterday that was different from any other Sunday was that I didn’t do any work, I didn’t cook anybody anything and I got a free Venti Oatmilk White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks.
And gifts. LOL
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m 2 years away from being 50 years old.
It’s way past time to live my life for me. It’s time to do all of those ‘one day “ things. It’s time to stop worrying about what others think, to put aside the limitations I put on myself, and go back to being that carefree person I was in my 20s who was actively living life and MAKING experiences happen. The person who was actively enjoying the life she was leading.
Yes, life and its responsibilities are here, and yes they realistically limit all that I can do because it’s not just me I have to consider in my choices.
But, there is so much I can STILL do that has everything to do with me.
So I present this year’s Bucket List.
Pick up my camera and start documenting my everyday again. (I will succeed in this sooner or later)
Go to the beach more than once in the next 365 days
Learn how to beat my face. Do you know I don’t know how to put on eyeliner at my big age? ( this is carried over from last year).
Stay in a 5-star hotel, by myself, for a weekend
See a broadway show
Start a podcast’
Build myself a library
Start re-learning French
Read Parable of the Sower. Because I meant to last year and didn’t.
Complete a Marathon. Meaning..cross the finish line and not get picked up by the bus LOL.
Things from the Internet this week

Yes I’m running a marathon! Yes, it’s about to become my whole personality as a train for the rest of the year. I am so excited and delulu at the same time, but please click on this link and like, comment or share if you want to do something wild and run it with me. I’m really excited about this partnership and I would appreciate your support!
I have added this book about the relationship between a female robot and her human owner to my May must-read list.
This article on a troubling trend in teen sex. (gifted article from the NY times) I found this article interesting because it’s also the precursor to an interesting trend in romance books these days…
My beautiful child got me a barcode scanner for my birthday. It’s to scan all the books I own into the Libib( a book inventory app) to make my own little library.
Nara Smith (@naraaziza ) had her baby! I am fascinated by what she cooks, the whimsical names of her kids and the unapologetic way she presents her life online. I can’t wait to see her making baby food lol.
Well that’s not all, but that’s all I have time for this morning!
Talk Soon!
LaShawn
Happy Birthday! and, thanks again for your super instagram page.
Happy birthday!
Bucket List #3 - if you have a Sephora nearby they do beauty lessons. I recently did one because I have no clue about makeup & it was a lot of fun.
That NY Times article, oof. The same ones who report it’s scary are probably the same ones shaming their friends for not doing it. And the gender scripts at play 😫
